Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The Open Day offered attendees the chance to hear from a range of partners, associates and trainees working at Gibson Dunn's London office. Their insight, paired with that of the Graduate Recruitment Team, made for an enjoyable and informative experience. However, the most rewarding opportunity came during the second half of the day, when attendees were divided into teams to deliver presentations on a current legal and commercial topic.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
Representatives were excellent in detailing qualities the Firm looks for in applicants for vacations scheme and training contract opportunities. It was also made clear exactly what these opportunities included, as well as the Firm's thought process and ethos behind hiring decisions.

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight
4/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Whilst it is difficult to draw conclusions about a company's culture from only a few hours' experience in an online Zoom meeting, representatives made a very positive impression. It seemed the Firm were just as interested in meeting attendees as we were in meeting the them. The general atmosphere was friendly and welcoming, without losing the informative and competitive elements of the opportunity.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
The enjoyment I received from the Open Day came through the opportunity to learn and develop a range of skills. Many insight opportunities are one-way interactions, where attendees observe rather than participate. This was certainly not the case here, and attendees were provided with an environment in which to test their communication and critical thinking strengths.

Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP
When applying for a place on the Virtual Open Day, I would advise applicants to outline clearly why they are interested in that specific opportunity in addition to why they are interested in Gibson Dunn. More typically, it would also be good to demonstrate knowledge of either the Firm's clients or key practices, and their relevance to a commercial issue you have developed an interest in.
