Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
It was a one day opportunity, that began with a talk about MUFG and what it does, and what career opportunities there were. This included extra information that is not available on MUFG's website and information and advice about the entire recruitment process. We also heard from a panel of employees in different specialisms and were able to ask questions. There were also two opportunities to meet people currently on the graduate scheme and ask them for info and advice, and they were happy to connect on LinkedIn.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was a very positive experience, I have confirmed that the roles I was particularly interested in will definitely suit my personality and skillset, and also have learned about other business areas that would be useful for me to also gain experience in. As for learning about the business itself, it was great to hear about how actually large its scale is, and also about how they have initiatives for improving the working environment (such as gender balance) that have been genuinely achieving their targets.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I came away feeling that I had a very good idea of what culture MUFG has and how they prefer to operate, meaning I knew whether they were a match for me personally. Furthermore I got to learn a lot more about their graduate opportunities and as well got some good advice for the application process, meaning I feel as though I would have a lot to talk about when it comes to interview questions etc., and I have the tools to make a plan for how I will make my application.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture was one of speaking up and listening to everyone, as opposed to others of being "the loudest person in the room gets noticed". It seemed to value teamwork and therefore personable and considerate people who are also proactive would likely go furthest. Furthermore, it does not have a focus on heirarchy so therefore it is easier for those early on in their careers to be able to interact with and learn from senior employees.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I fully enjoyed the insight day as it was genuinely informative and useful, so it felt that it was well worth going. As we got to hear from a variety of people in different areas and stages of their careers, it was quite interesting and made me consider things/ideas/business areas that I hadn't previously given as much thought to. Also, everyone there was friendly and welcoming, allowing us to enjoy the day without feeling nervous.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to MUFG
For MUFG, whilst hard skills and knowledge are given credit, it is extremely important to have the soft skills that aren't as easily taught. Are you a good communicator? Would people enjoy working with you? Are you proactive, making the team's life easier? Do you have strong public speaking skills? Keep the CV to 1 page, and keep it relevant. Whilst the CV is also important, answers to the application questions are where people actually stand out. If you get to the assessment centre stage and are working in groups, do not be the person talking over everyone in an attempt to "prove" yourself, this will come off as inconsiderate and reflect badly on your ability to work with a team.
