Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
Each day was involved with a mix of informative sessions, practical tasks and work shadowing. We attended presentations covering various areas of laws which provided me with valuable context of potential career paths. Additionally, the work shadowing allowed me to observe solicitors in action, giving me a real sense of their day to day responsibilities.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was fascinating to learn how diverse the legal field is, with options ranging from transactional law to litigation, each with its own unique challenges and rewards. Gaining insights into these roles helped me appreciate how interconnected each department is in serving clients. It also clarified the paths available within the firm, from trainee to partner, and gave me a clearer vision of the skills and experiences needed to progress in a legal career.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
During my time at Gibson Dunn, I developed various key skills and built more on existing ones. We had a group discussion on work place surveillance where a partner took part in the discussion too, and that helped me think differently and out of the box. It helped me build my communication skills and commercial awareness, particularly in adapting legal information for different audiences. Working alongside experienced professionals also strengthened my teamwork and time-management skills, as I learned to prioritise tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
