Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

My typical day at RSM involved working as part of an audit team to conduct sampling of balance sheet and income statement areas, which followed with testing of these areas. Discussion with clients on their controls and ensuring the financial statements are as accurate as possible.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Although I was an assistant, I was able to gain understanding of the job very quickly with the help of my managers and supervisors. I was quickly trusted to work on large and more risky areas of the audit job. Towards the end of my placement I was also given an opportunity to supervise and assist an intern which has allowed me to broaden my skills in supervision.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I am grown in my confidence and feel that I have developed even stronger leadership and teamwork skills. During this placement I have also been able to grow my network, and speak to clients both through verbal and written means.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I was given a lot of guidance and support at RSM, and that’s the main reasons why my time at the firm has been unforgettable. My line manager, buddies, as well as assistant managers/supervisors on all my audit projects were so helpful and ensured that no question was left unanswered. They are always ready to hear me out and have been able to accommodate me in numerous ways.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The atmosphere at the office is great and everyone is friendly. The firm follows a hybrid working style, and allows you to work both from the office/clients site and from home. You also may be booked on jobs outside of the main London office and therefore have a wider group of audit teams from different offices to work with, and this means meeting more people.
