Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Conduct frontrunners jobs, meetings with supervisor. Organisation of jobs and managing time. I also had to prepare a lot of scientific sample and then proceed to analyse them. Finally i had to write reports on the results with discussion on the results.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I was in charge of my time. There were regular meetings with supervisors which involved discussion of previous weeks work and planning what i am going to do for the next week. I was also responsible for working alone in the lab and this requires its own set of responsibilities and care.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

a lot of support and guidance was offered both by supervisors as well as DMU staff who were knowledgeable and supportive. Initially, they had a presentation prior to us starting the internship which gave us all the information we needed going forward. I found that really useful.
