Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
EY set up a virtual platform for the two weeks which was amazing ! It included a clear agenda to which we could navigate between information sessions, group work for case studies and fun activities. Each day started at 10am and consisted of the three things previously mentioned, we then finished at 4 everyday which was amazing ! At the end of the 2 weeks we had to present our findings from the case study in our groups to our mentors which was a great learning curve !
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was really interesting listening to the various speakers about the business and potential roles. We had more general talks which covered the company as a whole and then we had more in depth conversations which were specific to our service line. Personally I was in the tax service line and got to attend multiple panels with employees of EY ranging from newly graduated all the way up to partners of the company. This meant we could learn about the company from many perspectives.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
Through this virtual internship I have developed valuable skills. Our case study work was done in groups of 7 which allowed for great teamwork skills as well as networking skills. During fun activities we got the opportunity to meet other people as well which was great ! I gained valuable analytical skills as the case study involved learning what services EY offer and how to help clients in a real life situation. I feel like it has really prepared me and given me a great insight into the real working world.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
We had many talks on the company culture and atmosphere which taught us, in great detail, about what the company was like. The picture they paint of a people driven company was really highlighted throughout the internship, as well as a strong diversity within the company and a really welcoming atmosphere. Whilst learning in our case studies, at no point did I feel silly for asking a question because everyone was so comfortable with it. I also enjoy the fact that EY don’t just employ accounting students! My group had students doing economics, sociology, politics... and the list goes on.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight. Given the unfortunate circumstances of being online and not being able to see the offices, EY managed this greatly. The platform they used was easy to navigate and allowed for great networking. One thing I really enjoyed was that the groups we were put in allowed me to meet people from all the other offices and therefore my experience felt more worthwhile and not like I was forgotten about. At the end of the first week we even did a virtual escape room ! It was great fun

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY
I would say just be yourself, the company is very diverse and not one speaker was similar to another in any way. If you study the values held at EY this will also help you a ton ! When applying I had to go through numerical tests and psychometric tests, I found these pretty average and if anyone is applying, just make sure to practice before you begin ! There’s plenty tools online to practice for these kind of tests.
