Technology Programme Intern Review

I was based in the Portfolio team, my day to day looked at managing projects and governance reporting across Infrastructure. A few times a month I got to be involved in the finance side of Portfolio, looking at the budget forecasting, timecard analysis and a few more. In my role I was given lots of opportunities to learn and network making lots of connections and meeting teams all across the world. During my time I was able to get hands on with tonnes of active projects

Tonnes, not too much that it was stressful, at no point in my time here did I feel I was given the bad projects no one wanted. I was given responsibilities regular employees get and even got opportunities to take extra responsibility to expand my skillset. Thanks to a project my line manager had that I thought I was able to assist in i was able to take the lead and organise it all, allowing me chances to manage teams!

I was able to develop lots of skills, mainly improving my leadership ability, and challenging my communication skills across a large company. The internship allowed me to upgrade my Excel skills, taking me from a basic understanding to being able to use it to make my own models that are now used across the business. I was able to continue to develop my software skills, challenging my ability to create accurate documentation. And many, many more!

As much as I needed, whenever I found work particularly challenging I was never put down due for it. Managers actively tried to help you but don't feel like they are breathing down your neck. There is lots of support though the company and the central team where always pushing resources for us to develop and support our time during the placement. The company has lots of networks that you can join and get support from colleagues

The company has an amazing culture, but sometimes it can feel a bit like a cult...I love my Clubcard as much as everyone else but walking around the office I seem to see logos everywhere! The community and atmosphere is generally good, everyone is friendly and happy to talk, and the teams do try and put events on to help the atmosphere. Sometimes as an intern i felt a bit under a microscope but that's no different to other companies

I really enjoyed it, I had an amazing time and made lots of friends with lots of opportunities to expand my network, I have been able to really push myself and really enjoyed my time doing it. I never felt like i was a burden i felt like a real member of the team. While it wasn't all perfect, tech should really have a different structure to everyone else as it was really inconsistent through the different areas
