Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Working on the Workspace product, programming on both front-end and back-end, performing investigations, peer-reviewing code, sometimes even writing tickets

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was given two separate projects to work on at the start of my placement, after which I had worked on just fixing bugs in the product. I believe I was working on the main team only in the last quarter, it would have been better if that decision was done earlier as the work that I'm doing towards the end is far better and challenging than the work I had at the start. It is also gave me an opportunity to learn from the senior devs, who are highly highly knowledgeable and very helpful.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Definitely improved my existing skills, from working with Python, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Vue, to working in an Agile way, writing unit tests and working with Git.
New skills learnt:
Docker, linux commands and Vue basics

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

Even though we had remote work going on, the senior devs were really approachable and were always there to answer any questions I had or whenever I got stuck with anything. But I believe more detailed training/guidance could have been given at the start about the product as I discovered more and more about the product after I started working on it (but again, there was COVID so better training may have been given before at the office)

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Great company culture, very good atmosphere, but I sometimes did feel left out when I wasn't working on the main team/working the senior devs were assigned
