Computer work on specialist programs similar to finite elements software, some CAD work, data processing of results including graph work, regular team and personal meetings and memo writing of completed work. Generally dealing with large and complex problems from deriving a simulation to making sense of the work.

Yes I was responsible with important and large problems for the entirety of their work cycle. I was given real important work tasks after 2 weeks once I had completed the training. Help was always easily available but a high level of independent thinking was needed.

I have learnt how to use various specialist software, improved my CAD skills, improved data processing skills and overall developed a better problem solving mindset.

The first 2 weeks were guided training to get used to the software. After this the friendly team was available most of the time to sit down and help with any of the tasks. However, a high level of independence was still important to manage the work given.

The company culture was reasonably relaxed with the dynamic work system allowing days to be worked at home if the nature of the work made it possible. Generally a lot of meetings at 9am but the time to go home was flexible. Generally a friendly atmosphere and a culture which supported collaboration.

I enjoyed the responsibility and feeling the work completed was important. I also really enjoyed some of the more interesting aspects of simulating munitions and some of the specialist softwares used. There was a general treatment of being a new employee rather than a university intern and I was the only intern present. This initially made the internship more intimidating but the pay off was a much more authentic and confidence boosting experience
