Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
I sat with two different supervisors over the course of three weeks (one in corporate law, one in litigiation.) Everyday, I would help out my supervisors and carry out any tasks asked of me (examples include writing a chronology for a case, and carrying out due diligence for a deal). We would also have various sessions every day giving insights into different departments and practice areas, where everyone had the chance to ask questions.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
The various insight sessions really allowed me to get a closer glimpse at what exactly working in each area looks like. The scheme also helped me understand the differences between the transactional and litigious side of commercial law.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
Throughout the scheme, I strengthened my legal research and writing skills. I also developed the skill to be able to take in a lot of information and condense it into a shorter more digestible amount. I also learnt a lot about the various practice areas at Gibson Dunn.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Everyone was extremely friendly and you could tell that everyone truly wanted to get to know you. The culture of the firm was also very diverse, with people from all over the globe with different backgrounds and experiences. This made for a very friendly and open environment.

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
This scheme was extremely enjoyable. A lot of thought had been put into the structure, and there was always something to do throughout the three weeks. I would definitely recommend this scheme!

For the written application, try to make sure your personality comes through and that you are not just copy pasting the same answers from different applications. For the interviews I would recommend fully researching Gibson Dunn so that you really know what type of firm you are applying to.
