Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I did three different rotations on the placement, the first team was in propulsion where I designed implmeneted and tested embedded systems in C. In the second placement I researched various open source repositories and machine learning models and integrated them to create a data pipeline. In my final placement I was mainly coding in C++, creating unit tests and reviewing other peoples code. In my first and last team I also did some rig testing.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I felt like I was given a good amount of responsibility in all of the teams I worked in during the placement. I was generally given autonomy over how I chose to complete a piece of work but could always ask for support from more experienced members of the team if I was stuck on anything. The tasks I was given were very similar to other employees that worked there and felt like meaningful tasks.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I developed my skills in C,C++ and Python as well as learning subjects that were quite new to such as microprocessor architecture and machine learning. l also developed my skills in embedded software development and team collaboration. However I heard some people were put in teams where they weren't learning a lot or the work was not relevant to software development, but in that case they were normally given the opportunity to switch to a team they preferred working in.

The rest of the team were always very supportive during the placement. At the start of the year I was assigned a mentor that I could go to for support. Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to JLR
During the interview, in your response to questions it's important to refer back to the creators code often. If you are given an offer to start as an undergraduate, when the placement starts, start looking for teams to rotate around as soon as possible so you can move to a team that you enjoy working in.
