Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
On a daily basis, I was given a number of tasks to complete by the supervising trainee solicitor. Due to the nature of the role, this could range quite a lot in terms of subject matter. I was given tasks such as legal research, drafting and commercial reasoning.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
The scheme itself was really enlightening in terms of advising me about the structure of Gateley and its supporting businesses. It was also really insightful in terms of how the firm manage their recruitment and the progression available at the firm.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have developed a strong understanding of how Gateley approaches disputes on behalf of its clients and the steps it takes to resolve different commercial situations. I will take this knowledge and approach away with me to apply to my normal role and any future work I have for commercial clients.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture and atmosphere was friendly, collaborative and open to the varying personalities of the people that worked at the firm. I felt like I was part of the team, able to put my thoughts across and discuss my own experiences to work with the people in the department I was placed in.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Gateley
Gateley value personality and honesty above all else. I have been greeted and embraced with a welcoming and inclusive nature and I think that, in order to get the most out of the experience, everyone should approach a VAC scheme here with that in mind.
