Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
General civil engineering duties such as writing reports, structural calculations, 3D and 2D modelling of projects and structural analysis of projects. I also help in client facing meetings by taking minutes and help coordinate beforehand.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I have been allowed to work and develop independently while being entrusted with responsibility. I have always had support nearby and my colleagues are eager to help if I need it.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have greatly developed my 2D drawing skills on AutoCAD/ Civil 3D. I have also been introduced to a variety of structural modelling and analysis software so my structural understanding has improved. As well as learning new software and other technical skills i have also improved my soft skills such as report writing and effective communication. I have also developed some skills related to project management such as helping to coordinate projects, creating programmes and taking minutes.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I was provided with lots of support throughout my placement. My colleagues gave me help when I needed it and I had weekly meetings with my line manager to assess my progress and help with resourcing. There were also a few workshops for placement students and graduates to give more formal training for technical skills, professional skills and working towards chartership.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture has been great. I have always been made to feel welcomed and supported. My team is very social and regularly organise activities outside of work together.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I have enjoyed my placement greatly and it has mainly been due to my colleagues as they have made me feel very welcomed and supported throughout my entire placement.
