Commercial Undergraduate Review

Currently in social media (but the 12 month placement is split into 2 roles). Daily, I check social performance statistics and feed this back to a wider marketing team to monitor overall brand performance. I might present a section to update on my overarching tasks in some of the meetings, to update on the development of new social strategy. Develop dashboards to showcase my social research and guide future photoshoots.

It varied as the placement went. Sometimes I was owning projects and very much responsible for their outcome, and sometimes I was in group tasks, where I was much more of a supporting role. It was also based on how much I asked for responsibility, I could very much shape how I took on.

My networking skills have been developed drastically, I now understand how to effectively network and make connections.
My presentation skills are much better than when I started, through practice and guidance.
Excel has become much more comfortable to work with.

The managers and co-workers I worked with were very open to putting time aside to teach me new skills and to show me how to get a handle on ways of working. I always felt it was easy to speak up and ask for help or to ask any question, without judgement or denial.

It was laid back in terms of ways of working. It was hybrid work, so we could work remotely or in office. The teams liked to have social time at lunch and even social days off-site. As long as the work was done, and meetings were attended, you could shift your hours as needed, a privilege highly appreciated by workers with families. The dress code is very inclusive and the hierarchy is not overly-structured, you can approach anyone.

I enjoyed my time a lot, and will miss a lot of my colleagues, and now friends, when I leave. It was highly beneficial to my development and I can see how it is a place that encourages you to thrive and grow. I felt very valued.
