Metrology Strategy Engineer Review

As an Undergraduate on a placement, you have the opportunity to rotate and work with different departments to gain experience. As a metrology strategy engineer, I have to identify potential improvements to metrology systems in JLR. After that, I create my own project management plan, which includes a Gantt chart, potential suppliers, designing and planning trials, creating meetings, and creating sheets that will help me decide the best solution. These sheets could be based on technical evaluations of the different technology solutions and sheets on their costs.

JLR acknowledges that you are a student in placement, so they make sure that you get enough training and guidance. After that, you get placed with a team to work with them or you can have a project that can be a 10 month long project. If you seek more responsibility, you can always ask for more, or in the opposite, you can always ask for support. I sought more things to work on and it was worth it as I gained much knowledge.

I developed many skills being: interpersonal skills, professional communication, project management, metrology knowledge, presentation skills, and leadership skills.

As much as I wanted. It was just a matter of sending a message or email to seek support, and a meeting could be created with anyone from any department.

People are always willing to help out. JLR pushes the culture of being united and supportive as part of its code of conduct.

It was great. The social part, the skill gain part, and the salary. It gave me an extra purpose to look forward to.
