Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I have been fortunate enough to choose where i wanted to spend my time in JLR during my placement. In my home team, I focused on various components and contributed to developing strategies for future designs. This involved understanding the technical aspects and aligning them with customer expectations and industry standards. Collaborating with the design studios was also vital to align technical specifications with customer expectations.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I have been given a lot of responsibility in my placement and being able to showcase my work to senior management.
I had the privilege of co-hosting the Amped Up Awards, a notable event that featured esteemed guest speakers [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] My role in organising the event helped me develop my event management and organisational skills.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

This experience has significantly boosted my confidence in my professional capabilities. It provided invaluable insights into the application of theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios and honed my technical abilities, communication skills, and gained a deeper understanding of project management.
In addition to enhancing my engineering knowledge, I have learned the fundamentals of financial reporting, product governance and competitor research.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I had quarterly 1:1s with my assigned early careers lead as well as 1:1s with my manager fortnightly. The support from team members was also incredible and the product owners were also happy to put in regular catch up meetings to help push my work along to meet deadlines.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

JLR is a very special place with a great atmosphere. There's always events to take part in within early careers such as racing teams and networks such as women in engineering.
The workplace is very inclusive to all and I felt supported in my work as well as my mental health.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I have enjoyed rotating around teams as it has exposed me to different areas of the business from engineering to project management.
Engagement events such as manufacturing tours and ride & drives have allowed me to experience the products our customers know and love. I have enjoyed being able to interact with the vehicles behind the scenes and understand what it takes to build a modern luxury SUV.
