Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I’m working in the Tunnels team in the Reading office, and I’ve had the opportunity to work as part of the design team for both small and big projects as well as gaining exposure into project management by working on the project management team for HS2. Currently, I’m working as part of the design team for SESRO and as part of the project management team for HS2.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I have been given a good amount of responsibility, more than I expected, throughout my placement through being given the responsibility to work on the design of tunnels in projects with guidance from senior engineers.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have improved my communication skills and confidence through having to communicate to various people when working on projects. I have also learnt how to use Civil3D, Moata, ACC, sharepoint, report writing skills etc. I have developed my excel skills.

I have been hugely supported throughout my placement from the engineers I have worked on with on my projects as well as my line manager.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I really enjoyed my placement and feel fortunate to have done my placement in the tunnels team. I have had the opportunity to develop my technical knowledge as well as my soft skills. I am also grateful for my line manager as he was really encouraging and always looked out for opportunities for new projects as well as opportunities for me to develop.
