Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

As a placement student, I have been working on designing ground models for different projects, such as the Wednesbury depot and Cambridge re-signalling projects. I have also been working in designing long sections for different HS2 assets using a modelling software called Leapfrog.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I have developed a range of both technical and soft skills. My communication skills improved as I delivered 3+ presentations internally and externally. This helped me to be more confident when communicating with senior engineers and with other employees.
Working on multiple projects at the same time helped me developed my time management skills. I also improved my Microsoft Office skills and working with software such as Leapfrog, DeepEx, ArcGIS, OpenRoads helped me improve my data analysis skills and software skills

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I received full support and guidance from everyone in my team. Everyone was really helpful, this include my line manager, the people I used to work directly with in different projects (including the staff from other offices)
