Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Daily tasks include calculations, excel tasks, software testing, project-related work.
Daily interactions include working with other engineers / Placement student to complete the task in hand. External interactions are minimal at this stage. Responsible for the assistance in delivery of projects to a set timeframe. Projects include MINERVA and in-house software.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

The work was overseen and checked by other engineers, so although responsibility in performing tasks was given, sole responsibility was not in my hands.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Work on a range of software includeing Tekla Tedds, AutoCAD, MathCAD, STAAD Pro has been undertaken, as well as in-house Mott MacDonald software. Existing skills such as working as a team and working under deadlines have been improved upon.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

Much support and guidance was provided by the Nuclear team in terms of explaining how to perform certain calculations, explaining the core theory behind some of the principles etc. No questions left unanswered.
