Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The programme consisted of two online days and one in-person day in the London office. It began with an introduction to Fidelity and an external speaker who gave an overview of investment management and explained where Fidelity lies within the finance industry. This was really informative and a great way to start the program. We heard from professionals from a variety of different divisions in Fidelity throughout the programme, and participated in engaging challenges everyday. In person, we recieved a tour of the office and had the opportunity to meet with experts from the different divisions to ask questions and hear more about their role.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was extremely insightful hearing from professionals from a variety of different divisions within Fidelity. The talk from Financial Edge at the beginning of the programme which gave an overview of Investment Management, helped to solidify my understanding of the industry before the more specific talks. Each speaker was clear in their explaination and were all more than happy to answer any questions we had about both their role and previous experience. Each speaker we heard from was very engaging and passionate about their role which was quite motivational and I left with a clear understaning of their role. We heard from a wide range of divisions, all of which require different skillsets. I truly felt there would be a role here that would match my own personals strengths.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I had the opportunity to present on multiple occassions and was encouraged to do so. This was really helpful as although I do not always like presenting, I try to push myself to improve. I definitely felt supported and was motivated to push myself out of my comfort zone thanks to the encouragement from the early careers team!
I also had the opportunity to network with other students and industry professionals. I built on research and public-speaking skills during the challenges which was hugely beneficial

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
There is a very supportive, motivational, and inclusive atmosphere in Fidelity. The importance of being yourself and finding a role that catered towards your own strengths was emphasised. The general atmosphere was postive and encouraging and I felt comfortable asking any and all questions that came to mind without judgement. There was also a sense of pride among employees for the organisation which was reflected in their work ethic and company loyalty.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight. It was a fantastic opportunity to hear from industry experts and to meet like-minded students. The challenges helped to make the days more engaging and gave us a chance to work together and build our skillset. I talks were invaluable and I gained a true understanding of the day-to-day talks and overall purpose of each division. This was a very insightful programme overall and was very well structured.
I really enjoyed being in the office in-person. It was much easier to ask questions, engage with others, and participate in the challenges. I appreicate that the office is very busy but it would be great if all three days could be held in person.
