Applied and Strategic Research (Tribology Engineering) Review

An average day would be spent predominantly in the lab (around 60 to 70% of my time), this would involve running standard tests for the business units, experiments on the main research project I contributed to and sometimes 3D printing objects for the department. The office based work would include project meetings both on teams and in person that I would regularly present at and data analysis from the lab

I was given the responsibility of reorganising the lab to improve efficiency, as well as designing objects for assisting experiments in other labs. These were useful as I developed my delegation and time management skills.

I developed skills in most Microsoft Office packages especially Excel for large data analysis and Powerpoint for presentations and Teams. I developed my communication skills when working with a wide range of employees of different backgrounds and experiences. My knowledge of Tribology also expanded quite a lot.

Both supervisors I had over the year were extremely supportive. I always felt comfortable asking questions and they were always ready to help me as soon as they could. However they both would feeling comfortable trusting my own independence if I did feel comfortable.

Lubrizol has a very supportive culture where everyone is eager to help others. It was really great to see higher up employees eager to dedicate time to explain concepts.

I had a really great year at Lubrizol I learnt lots and was definitely challenged. I would definitely recommend applying here. There are loads of social activities throughout the year which was also great to do.

Yes
