Summer Vacation Scheme Review

Each day we were set tasks to complete with a particular unit of Gateley Legal. We were given a supervisor and encouraged to ask any questions necessary, particularly at the check-in meetings throughout the day. We also attended overview and networking sessions with other units and had the opportunity to ask questions of current Gateley solicitors about their work and Gateley. Each day we also had further talks about how Gateley runs as a business.

It was incredibly useful to learn about the business and about the potential roles available. Hearing from solicitors across such a wide range of practice areas was particularly insightful and helped me to think about which seats I would want to undertake as a trainee solicitor with Gateley Legal and what roles would be available to me.

I developed many of my existing skills over the week: the tasks helped me develop my written communication, problem-solving and legal drafting skills, while the networking sessions helped me develop my oral communication and soft skills. I also grew in confidence during the week.

It was clear from the week that the Gateley Team Spirit is embedded throughout the business and that the working culture is one of the most important aspects of the job for many of Gateley's employees. Everyone I met was incredibly supportive, welcoming and helpful, and the week really impressed upon me that Gateley cares about creating an atmosphere where everyone is able to bring their full self to work.
