Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
It was a 4 day placement which involved numerous useful activities. These included doing example case studies that you could get on assessment days at law firms. Another thing that was extremely useful was we had many networking opportunities to work with current solicitors at Clifford Chance. As well as this, we were able to take part in workshops to help us prepare for University and our applications. Overall, it was an extremely insightful week.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was really useful as during the week we heard from numerous people at the firm. This varied from people who had done the same program as us when they were younger and had now gone on to train at Clifford Chance, to associates and senior associates at the firm. As well as this we got to hear the different routes that partners at the firm took, which was extremely enlightening as it meant we could imagine ourselves also on the same paths.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
Some of the skills I developed through this week are communication skills as we had to speak up in order to get our questions answered by the solicitors. As well as this, it developed my perseverance and resilience in order to complete every task they set successfully. Finally, another skill that I learnt through this work experience week was commercial awareness and being financially and politically aware, which they helped us to be able to become stronger at.

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
During the week we had talks about the culture of Clifford Chance and how they are constantly aiming to improve and be more accommodating worldwide. This includes celebrating people from all walks of life, all the time, not just in specific months of the year or on specific days. I saw the company to be a warm welcoming place where the teammates seemed to always help each other out rather than go against each other.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I extremely enjoyed the insight as it was very enlightening. Being able to see people at the firm and be able to put myself in their shoes has made Clifford Chance extremely attractive to me and it seems like a place I would love to work when I’m older. Everyone felt included during the insight and every question anyone asked felt heard and respected. It was overall a warm, insightful experience that I’m very grateful to have been a part of.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Clifford Chance
I would advise them to definitely apply even if they’re doubtful they’ll be accepted. It is an amazing place with so many opportunities for everyone. It is at the forefront of the legal world and is constantly evolving which makes it such an exciting place for people to work. The people that are working there really are doing life changing work, which is something i’m sure lots of people would like to be a part of .
