Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
The bulk of my role is researching new environmental legislation and preparing for new compliance measures. I also collect energy consumption data from our building managers alongside doing packaging, e-waste, and batteries consumption calculations.
Another component to my role is assisting with vendor onboarding by checking new vendors for bribery and corruption.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
The placement role has a lot of responsibility. I am responsible for the completion of our Phase 3 ESOS audits and the FY2022 SECR report. I also have done the calculations for our packaging, e-waste, and batteries consumption all of which are reported to the government.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have developed a great deal of commercial awareness by looking at the environmental credits of other companies and comparing them to how we are doing in terms of sustainability.

I have had a reasonable amount of support from my line manager and wider team. I have found that you need to go out of your way to ask for feedback and to ask for support. Once asked for, it is freely given

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I have learnt a lot about myself and the areas of work that I have enjoyed, so the placement has helped me decide the career trajectory I am aiming for. It has been fun, with some stressful times but I think that's the nature of the working world

What advice would you give to others applying to Samsung Electronics
The placement is only as good as you make it. If you put lots in, you'll get lots out of it. I'd also encourage you to mild the placement into what you want it to be. Sustainability is such a broad topic that you can build on the areas that really interest you.
