Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
Overall the vacation scheme was very well organised and engaging. Each day we had presentations by partners and associates of the different departments in the firm, introducing us to their work as well as their own personal backgrounds. We also had the freedom to independently organise meetings with partners, associates or trainees to learn more about their areas of work and ask to get further involved.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
The scheme was built around giving us a comprehensive overview of the firm’s work and what our potential future at the firm may look like. It gave me a chance to explore areas I didn’t think of before by reaching out to individuals and completing tasks for them to gain a better understanding of the area.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
The scheme was really comprehensive in giving you an understanding of what skills are necessary in a legal career. It required a lot of time management to balance tasks you’re given but also make sure you interact with people at the firm, giving you the chance to develop communication skills further. I got the chance to develop technical skills on using legal platforms to complete administrative tasks for my supervisor.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
The scheme was very enjoyable. We had a number of different events organised where all the people of the firm were very keen to attend. This included after-work drinks as well as movie screenings organised in the office. The efforts of the firm to integrate us in their culture were very evident and it allowed us to create connections with most people at the office and importantly, become closer with the other vacation scheme students.
