Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
Some days included talks from the firm about its values and goals. Day-to-day was mostly about getting stuck into a department and helping with work, mostly to get a flavour of what working there would be like. I sat in the same department for the week and go to know lots of people around the firm. I usually had the opportunity to sit down with someone from different departments as well.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
By the end of week I think that I had a very good understanding of how the business functions and how a typical day looks for a solicitor at the firm. It made law seem much more inviting and reaffirmed my interest

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I think that the placement helped me develop my ability to draft documents and even just comprehend blackletter law. It also helped me become more comfortable socially in an office environment and progressed my teamworking skills

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Everyone was very friendly and interested in getting to know and asking questions etc. There seems to be a culture of looking after each other and understanding boundaries and capacity. From my week, it seems like a very nice place to work. The office can be quite quiet, but that is the way with WFH

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I enjoyed every day. I do think that the talks and presentations should include more breaks because sitting and listening for 2-3 hours becomes quite difficult. Other than that, I have no complaints and thoroughly enjoyed my time working here.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Gateley
Make sure to understand how the firm works as a business and why you are applying to work in a specific location. I think a good understanding of the importance of business development and networking is beneficial, too
