Finance, Risk & Assurance IP Review

During my 12 months at Unite, I spent 8 months in the Financial Planning and Analysis team and 4 months in the Risk and Assurance team.
I gained exposure to different areas of the finance department, providing support to finance business partners, assisting Group Reporting on month end tasks, contributing to nominations appraisals and much more.
I provided independent assurance to the business, supported the completion of internal audits and assisted in mitigating risk within the business.

During my time at Unite, I had the opportunity to take on significant responsibilities and play key roles in various tasks. While I primarily collaborated with team members on most tasks, there were instances where I was given sole responsibility. For example, I took charge of updating the cost centres on a monthly basis, I independently completed a thorough verification of the annual report and handled month-end tasks for Group Reporting.

During my placement year in finance, I developed valuable skills that enhanced my professional growth. These include improved analytical abilities for data analysis and forecasting, proficiency in financial modelling and Excel, attention to detail for accurate financial reporting, refined time management and organizational skills, and enhanced communication and interpersonal abilities. Overall, my finance placement provided me with a diverse skill set, essential for success in the field.

Throughout my placement year, I received invaluable support and guidance from the team at Unite. They created a welcoming environment and were always available to assist and provide feedback. Regular 121 meetings ensured I stayed on track. Their support boosted my confidence, allowing me to take on new responsibilities and explore different areas of the business. I am grateful for the support and guidance I received, which greatly contributed to my development at Unite.

During my placement year at Unite, the company atmosphere was brilliant. The team were very welcoming along with most employees at Unite. There was an affective line of communication and a supportive environment. My team members were approachable and willing to offer guidance and support whenever needed. The company emphasized work-life balance and prioritised employee well-being. Team-building activities and social events further improved the positive atmosphere.

My placement year was thoroughly enjoyable! Not only did I gain valuable experience, have exposure to industry insights and develop my skillset, I really enjoyed meeting and learning from new people who were able to share their knowledge with me. I was able to learn more about Finance, Risk and Assurance and the PBSA industry. I believe I will have fond memories of working at Unite when I look back on my placement year.
