Vacation Placement Student Review

I was part of the construction team and was regularly given tasks which were relevant to the team, for example contract reviews. The work was very rewarding and for someone with no real experience, I felt like the level of work challenged and educated me perfectly. The partners and solicitors I worked with were always very friendly and happy to help if I had any queries.

I was given exposure to all the roles of the firm and talked to everyone about how they got where they were and why. All individuals were happy to share their journeys and give me specific and insightful career advice.

I have learnt a surprising amount about how work gets done and is delegated throughout the teams, as well as the type and intensity of work the firm attracts. My communication skills, as well as legal analysis, have developed through regular research tasks and contract reviews.

Gateley has an outstanding culture which really affirmed my reasons for applying there. The people were so friendly, as well as insightful and social. No one ignored you walking round the office and most people I asked for a 1 and 1 made time for me. The specific office atmosphere was also great, with socialising and laughter being a regular theme.

I was incredibly surprised by how much I enjoyed the week and how much I learnt about my subject area (construction). The work was engaging and not frivolous, and was even included in some direct client communications.
