Creative Design Student Placement Review

Day to day involves working off of a dashboard with various briefs to complete. These briefs are from many departments across the business, and can range from building emails, to print assets, to website banners etc. Further along in the business as you transition from Artwork into Design, work becomes more self-led and project based rather than set briefs.

As the internship progressed, so did my responsibilities. The beginning of my experience was much more focused on developing my skills, becoming comfortable with working life and how I fit in into the business. Whereas by the end, I have been given various projects to essentially manage on my own which has been so beneficial.

I have learnt many new skills, especially in various software across the Adobe Creative suite. University gave me a basic understanding of After Effects for example, however through this Placement I have developed massively in terms of my confidence, ability and speed. Other soft-skills have also been massively developed for example public speaking, office etiquette, and time management.

My team, as well as the whole of the creative studio, have been fabulous at providing me with support and help whenever I have asked. I have had the opportunity to shadow many areas and disciplines, in which the individuals have excellent in their teaching and guidance. In addition to professional skills, I have also had apt support whenever personal support has been required.

The company culture is profound. At the beginning of my placement due to re-structuring, the general atmosphere was very low as a lot of the business had changed, however this overtime has diminished and improved.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement at Gymshark - it has exceeded all of my expectations and has truly transformed me as a person. I feel excited to progress into my final year of uni with a lot of invaluable wisdom, skills, and self-confidence on my back.
