Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I rotated every 3 months around the people team, I started in Recruitment and selection then Learning & Development. after that I went to Partnering and People Operations and finally Reward/ Benefits. I do admin work, support on projects, strategy and EDnI work too. I have managed inboxes for external and internal queries as well as managing stakeholders and expectations for deadlines.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given lots of responsibility for my level of knowledge. I ran events and projects that had a real impact on the company. I was able to work with stakeholders, host meetings with external partners alone, and deliver positive and negative feedback. I was also able to get involved in volume recruiting in retail and offer and reject candidates.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Communication, stakeholder management and time management are the main skills I have developed. Another skill was presentation skills and how to communicate with people at every level of the business.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I got lots of support from my manager and early careers lead. I had a weekly, eventually bi-weekly, 1-2-1 meeting with my manager to look at my workload and priorities for the week and rotation overall. My early career leads made sure I was pushing myself to develop and get every opportunity I could in the 13 months.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
As we went through a restructuring, the atmosphere and culture did change naturally. The office is so calm and everyone is super friendly, even if you don't work with them everyday. directly. People are open to answering questions and supporting wherever they can.

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement. Of course, there were times when it was hard and difficult. But overall, I learnt a lot and got to meet some amazing people.

Be in for the ride! It's a fast-growing, ever-changing, and dynamic company. Deadlines can be tight, and priorities can change fast, but that's the fun (and sometimes frustration), so just ride the wave and enjoy the experience.
