What you’ll be doing

This is an alternative route to full time University. You’ll study part-time at one of Network Rail’s partnered Universities towards a BSc (Hons). Putting your university-learned theory into practice, you’ll hone your current IT skills and learn new ones.

As part of our IT Apprentice Academy, you’ll gain vast and varied exposure, but specifically in our Telecommunications teams, implementing cutting-edge, innovative technologies and applications, to supporting the delivery of a significant business change initiative or working in our IT Operations teams. You’ll be able to learn what it means to be a Network Engineer, Project Manager, Data Analyst, Business Analyst or Information Security Analyst.

Who you are matters

You’ll need to have achieved 5 GCSEs Grade 9-5 (including Mathematics and English) and 3 A-Levels at Grades BCC (or 104 UCAS points equivalent), which should include 1 STEM subject. BTEC equivalent qualifications at Distinction* are also acceptable. General Studies A Level is not accepted for this opportunity.

Fascinated by Telecommunications, Network Engineering, or Information Security and passionate about IT, you’ll be keen to get practical hands-on experience based on the theory you’ve learned so far. Possessing strong attention to detail, you’ll enjoy working as part of an innovative team and getting into the nitty gritty of how telecommunications enables us to connect with people, across the internet, make phone calls and share data across the world. With a flair for coming up with creative solutions, you’ll be highly organised, a logical thinker and confident communicating and presenting your ideas to others.

What you’ll get out of it

You can choose which functions you’d like to experience and tailor your programme to suit your skills, strengths, and interests as well as to match your study modules. Plus, your scheme manager will support and guide you throughout your 3 years, while continuous coaching, regular progress reviews and catch ups will help you to grow academically, professionally, and personally.

At the end of the scheme, you’ll achieve an Apprenticeship in Digital Skills and Technology Solutions and gain a BSc (Hons) degree.

We expect you’ll move into roles, covering areas from Network Engineering, to Information Security and IT Project Management to IT Business Analytics.

We matter to millions. You could too.
