Job Description

Maintenance Engineer Level 3 Apprenticeship - Scarborough

Role Mission:

As a Maintenance Engineer Apprentice you will optimize operational performance through proactive / reactive maintenance techniques. This is to ensure that safety is secured through the adoption of safe working practices and the provision of safe plant and equipment, whilst also providing on-rota call-out cover in support of the factory reactive breakdowns.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safety and integrity of all plant and equipment.
  • Support continuous improvement and site projects.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and manage spare parts inventory.
  • Monitor key performance metrics (MTTR, MTBF, service schedules).
  • Respond to breakdowns quickly using fault-finding techniques to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain site facilities and oversee subcontractor safety.
  • Train and implement autonomous maintenance practices.
  • Comply with company policies and procedures in all activities.

Training:

During your apprenticeship, you will receive two different types of training.

‘On-the-job’ training will be delivered by Schneider Electric, as your employer. You’ll receive training and supervision to help you perform the job you’ve been hired to do. This will include skills and knowledge that fall outside of the apprenticeship but are needed for the job role. As well as providing ‘on-the-job’ training, it is important that we support you in additional ways to ensure your success.

Types of support will include:

  • A comprehensive induction
  • Mentoring or regular one-to-one guidance
  • Social enrichment and networking opportunities
  • Performance reviews
  • Mental health and wellbeing support
  • Feedback opportunities

‘Off-the-job’ training is delivered by one of our carefully selected Training Providers during your normal working hours. You will spend at least 20% (average 6 hours per week) of your working hours completing ‘off-the-job’ training. This is protected time and is a requirement for apprenticeship delivery. This training will teach you the knowledge, skills, and behaviours set out in the apprenticeship standard so you can achieve occupational competence.

Work Pattern

  • 37.5 hours per week to be worked from Monday to Friday.
  • Exact start and finish times are to be agreed upon with Line Manager. Some of these hours will be allocated to off-the-job training as part of your Apprenticeship Programme.
  • Monday to Thursday: 07:55 to 16:25
  • Friday 07:55 to 13:25
