Industrial Engineer Degree Apprenticeship - Scarborough
Role Mission:
As an Industrial Engineer Apprentice, you will develop a strong understanding of industrial processes, optimization techniques, and project management principles. By collaborating with teams and focusing on efficiency, you will help design and implement innovative, sustainable solutions that enhance productivity, quality, and safety within our plant. Through hands-on experience, continuous learning, and a passion for improvement, you will play a key role in maintaining the design intent and integrity of products assembled on site, making a positive impact on our business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as an expert in multiple areas of production and manufacturing processes within the Schneider Performance System (SPS), including process design, ergonomics, capacity planning, simulation tools, investment analysis, cost evaluation, and performance optimization. Strongly contribute to and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
- Implement process and workstation adaptations for existing products to improve industrial performance across manual processes, automated systems, and PLC (Programmable Logic Control), utilizing SPS techniques and tools.
- Participate in defining specifications and preparing quotations for new line architectures and industrial scenarios to meet safety, quality, lead time, and productivity requirements.
- Ensure the deployment of SPS principles and apply Lean and Six Sigma tools.
- Take part in SIM2 meetings for assigned sectors and implement actions to quickly remove barriers.
- Manage capacity versus workload balance using dedicated tools (iQ simulation, CAMA, CORIM, Bridge) for both internal and external lines.
- Optimize lead times and ensure line capacity, develop operator work instructions for training, and contribute to the design of new products to ensure producibility and feasibility.
- Assess the feasibility and profitability of investments aligned with operational needs.
- Qualify equipment and processes both within the plant and at supplier locations.
- Lead the ramp-up of new production lines.
Training:
During your apprenticeship, you will receive two different types of training.
‘On-the-job’ training will be delivered by Schneider Electric, as your employer. You’ll receive training and supervision to help you perform the job you’ve been hired to do. This will include skills and knowledge that fall outside of the apprenticeship but are needed for the job role. ‘Off-the-job’ training is delivered by one of our carefully selected Training Providers during your normal working hours. You will spend at least 20% (average 6 hours per week) of your working hours completing ‘off-the-job’ training. This is protected time and is a requirement for apprenticeship delivery. This training will teach you the knowledge, skills, and behaviours set out in the apprenticeship standard so you can achieve occupational competence.

Exact start and finish times are to be agreed upon with Line Manager. Some of these hours will be allocated to off-the-job training as part of your Apprenticeship Programme.
