Job Description

Software Engineering Placement Programme

About The Role

Are you an undergrad itching to boost your professional and coding skills?

Motability Operations has an exciting opportunity for students to join our Software Engineering team for a year in industry.

During your placement, you won't be on the side-lines – you'll be right in the thick of it, applying and broadening your skills, being an active member of our agile product teams. Your work will revolve around developing and maintaining production software that matters to both our internal and external customers.

We’re passionate about fostering collaboration. We believe in a level playing field where your voice and ideas count, regardless of your experience level. Of course, your colleagues will be there to guide you every step of the way. Plus, you'll have regular one-on-one chats with a dedicated mentor who'll be there to offer you even more advice and support.

Who you’ll be working with

The Software Engineering team is part of the Technology division of the company. Here, we collaborate across diverse agile product teams, consisting of Software Engineers, Quality Engineers, UX Designers, Business Analysts, Product Specialists, Product Owners, and a dedicated Scrum Master. Together, we join our expertise to deliver exceptional value to our customers.

Our 12-month placement programme is built on three key pillars:

Making an Impact, Personal Development and the Project.

Making an Impact – get involved in meaningful work that adds real value from day one. You’ll support your team’s goals and help deliver work that makes a difference – for your team, and for the people we do it all for: our customers.

Personal Development – build your confidence and skills through mentoring, learning sessions and events – all designed to support your growth and goals.

The Project – work with other students to lead a project that creates real, positive impact.

Our programmes go above and beyond just the day job. You’ll gain valuable experience in your chosen business area while also having the space and opportunity to challenge yourself and develop your skills.

About You

We are dedicated to unlocking your full potential, and we are eager to welcome a diverse range of skills and talents.

Here, we see Software Engineering as more than just writing code.

It's about fostering creative collaboration within diverse teams, harnessing each other's strengths to solve real-world challenges and enhance our customers' lives.

We're not looking for the "finished product," and whether you've gained some coding experience through university or as a personal hobby, we're interested in team-players who are enthusiastic about learning, growing, and contributing their unique perspectives.

If this resonates with you, and you are eager to make a meaningful impact, we can't wait to hear from you!

Minimum criteria

You’ll need all of these:

  • Loving exploring new technologies in your own time through personal projects
  • Passionate about learning, including both technical and non-technical skills
  • Excited to join us in our Bristol office at least three days a week
  • Eager to start in July 2026
