Current Team Information

The Graduate Engineer role sits within the Design & Projects team of Savills’ Engineering and Design Consultancy (EDC). With 48 engineering and sustainability consultants across the UK, EDC is one of the largest engineering departments in mainstream real estate practice, known for success and professionalism.

EDC provides expert technical solutions throughout all stages of a property’s lifecycle—from acquisition to disposal. The team is based in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh, and Glasgow, and includes chartered engineers in Mechanical, Electrical, and Public Health (MEP), as well as Low Carbon Consultants and air conditioning inspectors. Specialist areas include IT infrastructure, BMS and Controls, Intelligent Buildings, Vertical Transportation, and Security Systems.

The team works closely with project stakeholders, offering commercially sound advice tailored to market conditions, lease constraints, and sustainability requirements. Their sector experience spans Commercial Offices, Retail, Warehouses, Residential, Hotels, Mission Critical Facilities, Life Sciences, and Healthcare.

About This Role

As a graduate in the EDC team, you will gain wide-ranging experience in engineering consultancy. You will engage with multiple service lines, allowing you to develop a strong all-around engineering mindset.

Throughout your apprenticeship, you will learn and apply engineering skills key to a future career at Savills EDC. Your work may involve conducting site surveys, designing MEP systems in 2D and 3D software, attending client meetings, writing reports, and presenting solutions to stakeholders. The role offers hands-on experience across new and existing buildings, supported by regular one-to-ones and access to comprehensive training programmes.

How You’ll Make an Impact

You will be part of a collaborative team focused on engineering excellence. Your role may include:

  • Contributing to design strategy and conceptual planning
  • Performing design calculations and site inspections
  • Ensuring compliance with British Standards and Building Regulations
  • Designing energy-efficient and low-carbon systems
  • Working across project teams to deliver high-quality outcomes
  • Supporting colleagues in areas like vertical transportation, BACS, and intelligent buildings
  • Promoting sustainability internally and externally
  • Working toward Chartered Engineer status with a relevant institution
  • Sharing knowledge on sustainable initiatives with the wider team

Personal attributes:

  • High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
  • Positive approach to problem-solving and collaboration
  • Effective communicator with strong report writing and numerical ability
  • Motivated team player with leadership potential
  • Computer literate

Above all, we value individualism and diversity. At every stage of the application, we encourage you to be authentic and let your personality shine through.

Training

Training is aligned with CIBSE methodology. The approach ensures you're fully prepared to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and behaviours gained during your apprenticeship.

You’ll benefit from:

  • A structured support system
  • Mentorship from experienced engineers
  • Regular performance reviews
  • Clear development pathways to CIBSE membership and chartership

Applicants who follow the T&D scheme often qualify for membership and chartered status earlier and with greater ease.

Career Development

You’ll receive the full suite of Savills training including health & safety and role-specific technical training. Support continues even after achieving CIBSE membership and Chartered Engineer status. We ensure your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) remains current through frequent updates in legislation and market needs.
