Job Description

Graduate Registered Mental Health Nurse

We’re working hard to ensure that our soldiers have access to the highest standard of mental health care. As a registered Mental Health Nurse, you’ll be part of a team working in a diverse range of clinical environments. You'll treat soldiers and their families everywhere from community mental health facilities on military bases to field hospitals in operational environments. You’ll have the opportunity to work in management, training and administration, as well as excellent professional development up to and beyond MSc level.

You’ll join the Army and complete your initial military training. You’ll then complete a short Transition to Military Practice Course, after which you will be assigned to a Department of Community Mental Health (DCMH) to commence your preceptorship and rotation programme and begin life as an Army Mental Health Nurse.

Start the adventure of a lifetime.

As an Army Mental Health Nurse, you can join as a soldier or an officer which will help develop your clinical and leadership abilities. As a soldier you will follow a regular mental health nursing career pathway. Officers will take on additional leadership and management responsibilities within the Army, alongside their nursing duties.

Army nursing can be tough, so we'll give you the best possible military and professional training. You can develop your skills throughout your career with further study up to and beyond MSc level, funded by us. It's not all hard work though. You'll also get to travel, take part in Adventure Training and play sports for the Army. With a competitive salary, non-contributory pension and free healthcare too, you'll get great rewards - and an amazing experience.

You’ll also receive 38 days’ annual leave every year (plus bank holidays and extra leave after operations), free medical and dental care, cheaper living costs, and free gym and sports facilities. And unless you're away on operations or training exercises, you'll normally work 8.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

What we are looking for

To qualify, you must be between 17 years 9 months and 35 years and 6 months. You’ll need to be registered with the NMC. You can join as a newly qualified nurse, be in your final year of training (on a course which will result in NMC registration) or join with prior nursing experience. You’ll also need to pass a basic fitness test.
