HR Specialist (iHub) Level 3 Apprenticeship

At The Army

Level 3 Apprenticeship

Can you tell us about the skills, knowledge and experiences that you got by doing your apprenticeship?

Throughout my apprenticeship I’ve gained a comprehensive understanding of how the organisation operates and developed a variety of practical skills. I’ve grown a greater understanding of customer service aspect of my role and how to engage with different stakeholders and manage professional relationships with greater confidence through effective communication. I’ve become more adept at my personal organisational skills, in a busy office environment through effective project and time management. It helped bring out an innovative side of me, whereby I constantly strive to find better ways of working through efficiency and the many different IT platforms I’ve become more confident with particularly MS Power Automate.

I found the apprenticeship helped me integrate into my Unit quicker, putting me in a position to learn more about the organisation and how things work at Unit level. The apprenticeship also puts you in a position to work closely on a project as a team with another person, something we do regularly as a Detachment. Overall, the Business Administration apprenticeship had a wide ranging and lasting impact on military personnel administrators improving all the skills which make a good administrator and giving a civilian recognised qualification, something not many employers offer; investing in me as a person.

What advice would you give to anyone looking at an apprenticeship in the Army?

I would fully utilise the apprenticeship and get fully involved in the process, the challenge of completing whilst working may seem difficult but the benefits in the long run are great. Actively seek mentorship, it’s good to have somebody who can guide you when you’re stuck. Try new things, innovation can fail but always keep trying within your role to improve. Ask questions to other people who’ve completed the apprenticeship, they might be able to give better insight into your specific one. And lastly, aim for top grades in every aspect it’s certainly achievable.
