Which apprenticeship are you currently doing / have you done?

I have completed the Level 3 Defence Knowledge of Policing.

Can you tell us about the skills, knowledge and experiences that you got by doing your apprenticeship?

This apprenticeship contributes to my job role by providing a clear path of what I need to achieve. It sets out clear steps of what I need to accomplish and a pecking order of how to do it, this makes learning the job easier as you get into a routine.

Every job is different in the Royal Military Police (RMP) but the process is generally the same and this apprenticeship helped me learn the process and adapt it to my own skills and mindset.

Although this apprenticeship sets out the steps you need to achieve, it does not constrict you to a certain way of doing it. This allows you to explore the job more freely which is great as it allows you to make your own decisions and to make mistakes so you can learn as you go.

The apprenticeship also guides you into going out of your comfort zone which is extremely useful to becoming confident in your skills. One task on my apprenticeship was to conduct an interview of a suspect, being new at my unit and not really having any experience in talking to people it’s fair to say this made me nervous. But to pass my apprenticeship I had to conduct one and after doing so I found confidence in myself.

What was the highlight of your apprenticeship experience?

The highlight of my apprenticeship has got to be all the hard and nervous jobs, as this has pushed me out of my comfort zone and I am a much better person because of it. This has helped me greatly and I have now gone on to do numerous courses within the Army which I would have never done without being taken out of my comfort zone.

This apprenticeship will help me when I leave the Army as I now have a wide range of skills and experience. The most important one which I have gained is the ability to talk and work with numerous different people from all backgrounds and religions. This at first was hard but now I have had experience I am much more inclusive and thoughtful of others. This is a great skill to have when leaving the Military as the world is very diverse and any job I choose will have many different people so having the skills to already communicate on different levels will put me ahead of the game.
