My highlights from my Merchandising placement year at Primark
Hi, I'm Matilda and I'm a placement student working in Merchandising. Going into this placement, I had no idea how much I'd enjoy working in fashion and merchandising, but it's genuinely been the best year. I've learned so much, worked on some really exciting projects, and been trusted with way more responsibility than I ever expected. It's pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best way, built my confidence, and confirmed this is the industry I want to build my career in. I would 100% recommend a placement here to anyone thinking about a career in fashion and merchandising!
Here are my highlights from the year:
Building my network
I’ve attended networking events with suppliers and worked alongside globally recognised companies such as Netflix, Warner Bros, and Disney - such a fun and exciting part of my placement year! I’ve met new people, built professional relationships, and gained insight into huge industry partnerships along the way, all while developing my confidence and communication skills.
Seeing the full business cycle
One of my placement highlights was getting to go behind the scenes in the warehouses and see the full business cycle in action. It was so interesting seeing everything that happens before products even reach stores. Seeing the new pink Primark trucks in person was definitely a highlight too!
Stepping into a content creator role
Getting the opportunity to work with the Employer Brand team on the Life at Primark social media channels was such an exciting part of my placement year. I loved being involved in coming up with fun and creative content ideas, keeping up with trends, and seeing how social media plays such a huge role in showing what it’s really like to work here in a more engaging way.
Moving abroad
Moving to Dublin, making friends for life, and getting to explore the city and beautiful parts of Ireland made this placement such an unforgettable experience
Experiencing a new city and culture
From days exploring Dublin to visiting iconic places like Croke Park, this placement gave me so many opportunities to experience things I never would have otherwise - definitely a year I’ll never forget!
