My highlights from my Buying placement year at Primark
Hi, I’m Hannah and I’ve just spent a year on a Buying placement at Primark. From moving to a new city and starting my first corporate role to working on exciting product launches and presenting to senior leaders, my placement year has exceeded my expectations. I've learned so much, built incredible working relationships and friendships across the placement cohort, and felt genuinely supported as a Trainee Buyer from day one. I never imagined how much I would develop both professionally and personally in just one year, and I would highly recommend the placement experience at Primark!
Starting my first corporate job alongside a full placement cohort:
Having a group going through the same experience and being able to support each other in those first few weeks, whether that’s chatting about how it’s going, having lunch together, or spending time as a cohort during our Early Careers Freshers’ Week, made it easy to get settled in.
Moving to a new city and experiencing it’s culture:
Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in Dublin with my friends was so much fun!
Presenting in front of senior leaders during our FWD Think Project:
Getting to work on a group project with other Early Careers students outside of my everyday role was super rewarding. We got to connect with colleagues across the business to help bring our product range idea to life and presented it back to some of the most senior leaders at Primark!
Building my knowledge of the world of Cosmetics Buying:
My year has been filled with learning – from trying new formulations and getting creative with packaging and shades, to seeing products I have worked on land in stores and feature in campaign shoots. I also conducted an in-depth shade analysis, informing a shade extension across some of our core lines for 2027!
Christmas in Dublin:
Dublin was especially festive with its Christmas decorations and lively atmosphere. I celebrated the season by visiting the Christmas markets in Belfast, hosting a Christmas dinner with my flatmates, enjoying Christmas-themed pubs and attending our work Christmas party!
