Manufacturing Engineer Degree Apprentice (Ansty Park)

My Journey into Engineering:

I always knew I wanted a career in engineering and the decision to apply to Parker Meggitt was clear. I was drawn to the company’s state of the art facility in Ansty Park, Coventry and their reputation for innovation in aerospace.

I started my career at Parker Meggitt through Level 3 apprenticeship as an Engineering Technician, which gave me the incredible opportunity to experience various teams across the business, building a robust foundational knowledge.

The path to high education:

Having the ambition to move from Level 3 to a Level 6 Degree apprenticeship, I initially transitioned out of the company after completing my level 3. However, I soon realised the growth and opportunity within the aerospace industry, leading me to re-join the company a year later to begin the Degree Apprenticeship. Parker Meggitt fully supported my return and transition into higher education. I am now able to attend Coventry University for a BEng in Manufacturing Engineering. This structure is invaluable as I can apply the theoretical concepts directly to my role.

A Typical Week:

My role as an Apprentice is built on a structured balance between academic studies and practical application. My typical week involves four days as a Manufacturing Engineer and one day attending university. On my workdays, I use problem solving to deal with manufacturing issues, while also identifying process improvements. I also use Computer Aided Design/Manufacture (CAD/CAM) to design and manufacture components and fixtures.

Advice for future apprentices:

For anyone thinking of applying for an apprenticeship. Do it! It offers the best of both worlds. You gain real-world experiences, a recognised qualification and graduate debt-free. Seek out companies, like Parker Meggitt, that demonstrate a real investment in their apprentices’ professional and academic development.
