From A-Levels to Ambition: How Lewis Kenny Found His Path with a Howdens Apprenticeship
About Lewis
Kitchen Sales Designer at Liverpool Sandhills (Previously Apprentice Business Developer)
Before joining Howdens, Lewis was studying A-Levels and considering a future career in the armed forces. He soon realised he preferred a more practical learning environment and began exploring apprenticeship opportunities that would allow him to gain hands-on experience while building a long-term career.
Why did you choose to apply for an apprenticeship with Howdens?
I was attracted to the opportunity to learn while gaining valuable workplace experience. I was also excited by the clear career progression opportunities available and the chance to build a long-term future with a company that invests in the development of its people.
How has your apprenticeship positively helped you prepare for your current role?
My apprenticeship has helped me develop confidence, communication skills and a strong understanding of customer relationships. Working closely with customers and colleagues has improved my ability to build rapport, work as part of a team and contribute positively to depot operations.
Can you share a specific experience during your apprenticeship that has been beneficial to your development?
One of the most valuable experiences has been building relationships with customers and becoming a trusted point of contact within the depot. Taking on new responsibilities and learning from experienced colleagues has helped me develop both professionally and personally.
What difference has the apprenticeship made to your life?
The apprenticeship has given me a more practical and engaging way to learn while developing valuable workplace skills. It has increased my confidence, helped me grow as an individual and introduced me to a supportive team that encourages both personal and professional development.
Reflecting back, what have you enjoyed most about the apprenticeship or work culture?
The support from colleagues, managers and the wider business has been outstanding. From day one, I felt welcomed and valued as part of the team. I have particularly enjoyed working alongside people who encourage development, share their knowledge and inspire others to succeed.
What would you say to someone thinking of applying for a Howdens apprenticeship?
I would definitely recommend it. If you are willing to learn, work hard and make the most of the opportunities available, an apprenticeship with Howdens can provide valuable experience, career development and a great foundation for the future.
