Describe your role and what it entails?
My role as a management trainee consists of running the day-to-day operation and providing replacement vehicles/hire vehicles to corporate, insurance and retail customers. In addition to this, managing the fleet by providing the right vehicle for the right reservation. Admin work plays a massive part in this role, making sure we chase all accounts receivables from third party organisations, monitoring fuel, damage on vehicles and monitoring on hire/off hire tickets and reservations. As a management trainee, every day is very different which makes the role more exciting!
What have been your highlights?
I achieved elite club (top 25 out of 900 employees in sales) eight times within my year in the industry, specifically in the month of October when I achieved number one! I was also a finalist in the “Intern of the Year” awards at Enterprise. This meant I was in the top 2% of interns in the UK and Ireland and had the opportunity to present my business ideas and achievements to a talented panel of senior management staff.
What have been your challenges?
One of my biggest challenges at the start was dealing with customer complaints. At first, I wasn't 100% sure of the business operations so I struggled to explain to customers to resolve the issues. However, as time went on, I took the lead as the customer service 'captain' and created an operation where it would become easier to resolve any issues that customers had dealt with. Since doing this, I had the honour of positively impacting my branch customer service scores, which led to massive recognition from senior management for myself and my team.
What advice would you give to a student following in your footsteps?
I would advise future interns and graduates to take every opportunity that comes their way as that is the best and quickest way to learn. Not only this but making sure to network and get your name out there as this will help with progression! Get stuck in!
