What was your experience of the recruitment process at AG, and is there anything you wish you had known beforehand?
My experience of the recruitment process at AG was overwhelmingly positive. Throughout each stage of the solicitor apprenticeship application, I felt genuinely supported and well prepared. The Early Careers team organised regular preparatory sessions, which helped to build my confidence and ensured I understood what to expect at every step. Reflecting on the process, I remember feeling particularly nervous ahead of the final assessment centre. In hindsight, I wish I had known just how welcoming and relaxed the environment would be; this would have helped to ease my nerves and allowed me to approach the day with even greater confidence.
Can you describe a memorable project or experience you’ve had during your time at AG, and what you learned from it?
One of the most memorable experiences during my time at AG was in the first year of my solicitor apprenticeship, when I was aligned to the Real Estate Finance team in London. I regularly travelled down to London to work closely with the team, and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know everyone and collaborating on a range of matters.
During this time, I had the opportunity to get involved in complex finance transactions, which was both challenging and rewarding. I played an active role in helping to manage various aspects of transactions, which gave me invaluable experience in drafting finance documents and communicating with clients. This hands-on involvement not only developed my technical legal skills, but also enhanced my confidence in managing client relationships and working as part of a high-performing team.
Overall, the experience significantly boosted my confidence, both in my legal abilities and in working within a professional team, and has been instrumental in my development as a solicitor apprentice.
What advice would you give to someone considering an apprenticeship or graduate position at AG?
If you are considering an apprenticeship or graduate position at AG, my key piece of advice would be to actively seek out opportunities to gain work experience at the firm. Immersing yourself in the working environment, even for a short period, can give you invaluable insight into the culture, the type of work you’ll be involved in, and the expectations of the role.
I would also strongly recommend attending AG’s insight nights and other early careers events. These sessions are a fantastic way to meet current apprentices, trainees, and members of the Early Careers team, and to ask questions in an informal setting. They can help you build your understanding of the firm and give you a clearer idea of whether AG is the right fit for you.
Above all, confidence is key. Whether you are applying, interviewing, or starting your role, believe in your abilities and don’t be afraid to put yourself forward. AG values individuals who are proactive and willing to engage, so trust in your skills and experiences. Remember, everyone at the firm wants you to succeed and is there to support you. By approaching each stage with confidence and a willingness to learn, you’ll be able to make the most of the opportunities available and set yourself up for a successful career.
