Finance Placement Student Review

My role covers the General Ledger and Fixed Asset tasks. On a daily basis for General Ledger, I ensure there are no journals are in error and also maintain code combination set up requests. For Fixed Assets, this involves ensuring all invoices are correctly matched to assets and approving Purchase Requisitions.

I have been given plenty responsibility on my placement. I have taken the lead on several tasks we do in the team and I have been trusted to train others in the team due to the knowledge I can show I have picked up.

I have developed/improved many skills while on placement. For example, analytical skills, this is very important during the month end close process to make sure all entries are correct and to check the reports we run. Being in this role has also helped to develop my confidence as I talk to many of our Finance colleagues on a daily basis from across different regions.

I have received a lot of support during placement - at first this was getting used to the systems I would be using to complete my daily jobs. I also had a lot of support while learning the tasks I would need to complete and if I did have any questions, there was always someone to assist me.

There is a good company culture, to ensure all daily tasks are done, the team can work well together and will pick up other tasks as and when required to make sure the work for that day is fully complete. The interactions between the team are always friendly which helps to create a very welcoming environment.

I have really enjoyed my placement year. I have gained lots of knowledge I did not previously have and also built upon the knowledge I have from university. The team I have worked in has been really supportive for my development and have helped me to achieve the goals which I outlines at the beginning of the year in terms of the skills I would like to develop and the knowledge I would like to gain.
