Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the virtual experience and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
It started at 10 am. Every day, we would have 2 "coffee roulette" sessions to meet other First Steps participants. We met with partners and trainees at the firm. In the afternoons, we worked on a competitive business simulation game. Also, we played an escape room game and watched a magician.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was really interesting to learn more about CMS. I enjoyed meeting with partners and trainees to see what it was like to have a career at CMS. The mentoring scheme is a very valuable experience to learn more about CMS and being a lawyer.

I developed a deeper understanding of business and commercial skills. I gained a new awareness of how companies operate in their respective markets. It was a valuable experience to get greater insight into CMS and being a lawyer.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture at CMS was very friendly and welcoming. I enjoyed meeting the diversity networks and the people involved in them. The graduate recruitment team were very kind and easy to talk to.

I really enjoyed the virtual experience with CMS! The team worked hard to make the experience fun and useful despite the constraints of it being online.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CMS
For the online application form, I would suggest people research the firm. Look on their website and highlight key deals that interest you. If you get to the interview stage, I would suggest talking slowly and clearly. It is important to be yourself and not try to tell them something you think they want to hear.
