Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The first two days consisted of attending the induction at the office. We were trained for the scheme and were able to participate in panels with various departments of the firm. Afterwards, I sat with my supervisor and trainee buddy. I was given classic trainee tasks such as drafting an attendance note or research tasks.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
I found the work really interesting and I was able to build my understanding gradually with the aid of my supervisor. My supervisor ensured that I had a solid foundation for the more technical elements. Being exposed to the daily work of the lawyers in my team was really valuable for gaining an better understanding of the daily tasks of commercial lawyers.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I learned how to draft an attendance notes, research memos and how to read technical reports. I learned more about the insurance sector and the type of work undertaken by insurance lawyers. I also built my Excel proficiency.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Everyone was extremely helpful and supportive. Everyone in my team was willing to support my learning during the scheme. Partners were very approachable and friendly, they were always willing to have a chat over coffee and answer my questions. I was able to as the Legal Director on my team for a coffee and receive a task from him. Everyone seemed genuinely interested in hearing about things from my perspective as well.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I really enjoyed the insight. I found the work and the induction very engaging. I also enjoyed the social opportunities that we were given such as being invited to firm socials and the vacation scheme student social. I really enjoyed networking.
