Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Working on multiple programs within my team to manage negotiations and supplier conversations. Make sure supplier input is provided by the dates expected and maintain a healthy relationship with these suppliers- to ensure as large a cost reduction as possible.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes this placement involves a lot of responsibility. I manage all the open and drafted negotiations across 5 programs. This is something which requires a lot of discipline and focus as you need to stay on top of responses from suppliers and make sure no negotiations close before they need to. I also have to hold meetings with suppliers on my own which is a large responsibility.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have learnt many new skills working at Cummins. Mainly these skills are focusing on the systems they have in place within the org to run on a day to day basis. As for previous skills i have developed- my excel abilities have improved massively over the year as this is an integral part of my role. As well as this, my email communication skills have vastly improved.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I have received massive amounts of support from my surrounding team throughout my whole placement. They have always been open to any questions at any time. There's definitely no need to be shy when asking questions... you will have a lot.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
A very relaxed and bubbly environment. Despite the work being mainly hybrid, when in office everyone is so friendly and welcoming to you. Its a good atmosphere in lovely facilities. The culture is work hard but still enjoy your time.

What advice would you give to others applying to Cummins
Ensure you have a base knowledge in engines/engineering as when i started i knew near to nothing in the industry and i feel it affected my learning at the start with a lack of knowledge.
