Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The vacation scheme was a fantastic experience which gave me valuable insight into the daily work of a commercial lawyer. On a day-to-day basis, I reported to my supervisor and I would receive work from them and others within the department. Some of the tasks I carried out included legal research, analysing legal agreements, and drafting filings for submission to public bodies.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was very eye-opening to become aware of all of the different considerations of the business and to see how the divisions of the business operate cohesively. It was also encouraging to see the potential for career development within the firm.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture was truly amazing. There was such a supportive and collegiate atmosphere and everyone seemed truly passionate about what they do. Everyone was very friendly and despite being goal-oriented, they were always willing to talk to you and give you insight into the firm or to discuss areas of interest to you within their practice area or more generally.

I throughly enjoyed it. I had a fantastic experience and I would recommend it to anyone considering a career in commercial law at the firm.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Baker McKenzie
One should really research the firm and get to know it properly before applying. In doing so, one should think about the reasons that Baker McKenzie is an attractive firm to them personally and the specific reasons why they would want a career at the firm. One should try and engage with the firm as much as possible, for example by attending open days. One should prepare well for all stages of the application process.
