2023 Insight Programme Attendee Review

I attended DLA Piper's three day Insight Programme in their London Office. The first day included some introductory talks, icebreakers and an AI in law workshop. On the second day, we did a litigation simulation, sectors workshop and learnt about the firm's efforts in D&I and sustainability. The last day included an insight into the firm's pro bono work, a Q&A with trainees and application advice. It was very informative.

Having people speak to us from all of the different sectors in DLA Piper, including Pro Bono as well as Diversity and Inclusion, showed the vast amount of opportunities available at the firm. I found this exciting as I was able to see all the different areas I could potentially work in during a career in commercial law, especially at a full-service firm.

I was able to learn a lot about commercial law and life at DLA Piper. Workshops and Simulation exercises helped to develop my teamwork and collaboration skills, especially working with people I had not met before. I was also able to work on my public speaking skills when participating in the mediation simulation in front of the programme's attendees.

It was definitely my favourite firm when looking back at my first year insight events. DLA Piper's values are to be bold, exceptional, supportive and collaborative; this was evident in the programme. Everyone, even those at the top of the global firm, was very friendly and approachable. It also felt professional and it was clear people enjoyed working there.

I really enjoyed it. The three days were packed with talks and workshops so there was always something to do. I particularly enjoyed the networking opportunities with other attendees. As there were 100 of us, I was able to meet lots of new people and having tables assigned to us helped with this too. The firm had a very friendly environment and the Early Careers team were amazing too.
